In which I rain on other's parade

[spn 8.13]It's a good episode, cool, and very much very the Lost Ark-y. But I feel strangely bereaved, allow me my melodramatic moments, pls. 'Cause there was promise of heart-felt honest and raw conversation between the brothers, which, unless Dean's last half-hearted comment about Sam being Yoda to his Jedi counted, did not happen.

I'm annoyed that Edlund, it is his episode, right? has to write that whole 'Gay thing' to tease the viewers. He could have spent that 3 minutes to have Sam and Dean talk to each other! It's like the first half of the season did not happen, except for Cas's storyline, which got mentioned in passing as if to say: hey, I did not forgot about it and here is the proof. Anyway, I think he is getting a bit too flippant to my taste. I am still upset about Sam mistaking Metatron for a transformer from the last season. This is the kind of out-of-character "comical" details that really annoy me. It's working too hard for laughs at the expense of the characters. It doesn't work for me.

Anyway, where was I? Oh, the gay thing. I like Dean's encounter with that bartender back from defending your life so much better, not because the bartender was a woman, but because it was true Dean style, he was a bit rusty, and had to psych himself up, but hey, that's what he did. That confidence, albeit shaking, in himself to charm the pants off a lady or a guy, that is Dean Winchester, not the guy who'd got thrown off his game so badly by a gay advance. Sheeth, it's not like he hadn't flirted while impersonating a federal agent before.

ah, I liked this episode, just, I feel like I am entitled to a good conversation between Sam and Dean and got denied.

As far as the big Sam and Dean conversation spoiler goes, that's for next episode, Trial and Error, which was being listed as 8.13 for a long time (possibly they filmed it in that order -- they sometimes do).

Who knows if it will be satisfying, but it wasn't this episode.

I agree with everything you say, esp the lack of a good juicy convo between the boys. Was sort of hoping that we might have gotten it at the end of the ep, but alas that was not to be. Here's keeping my fingers crossed that it will take place next week.

It's probably the reason why Citizen Fang is my favourite ep of season 8 so far. We had a fantastic, brutal, raw talk between Sam and Dean, with Sam getting the (very rare, esp in the last few seasons, IMHO) chance to really say how he feels and why he has been pissed off with Dean and that he's putting his foot down and saying that enough is enough and he's not going to take it anymore.

That is the Sam that I have been missing so much. Just hope he sticks around for a good long while.

you know, I actually get why the writers had/are having a hard time, maybe, 'cause the tension that was the origin of the show, the conflict between Sam's will to go on his own and John and Dean's wish for him to stay in the family biz had been resolved by Swan Song.

And that conflict was what kept me watching this season, 'cause the basis for it has been legitimate fundamental differences, regarding Benny and Amelia.

Ah well, as long as the show is going on, there is hope.
